Department/Faculty Meetings
- Dr. Parent's Faculty meeting was moved to Thursday - January 10th
- Our next department meeting on January 15th
*As per Dr. Sabbath...
- Department meetings are contractual. Coaches and advisors are required to attend. Coaches must arrange for assistants or head coaches to cover their practices. If you have a game on the day of a department meeting, you can arrange to meet during your prep, duty or after school. Department meeting schedules have been issued for the year in advance, so please plan accordingly.
PLCs
- Official Team meetings are scheduled for Friday 1/25. Coverages will be arranged for those who need it.
NoRedInk
- All grade levels - I want you all to take a look at the teaching resource "NoRedInk." We have free access to it for the next month or so (there is also a limited free version that a few of the STEM teachers have been using but the link below will give you more access). I am thinking of using this specifically to replace APEX for the Freshmen next year, however, we will most likely have a school-wide license for all grade levels. It has an internet-based curriculum with specific skill-set adaptive exercises and a writing component that can even be used with higher level students for ACT/SAT practice or even AP practice. There a wide range of options with this program and I think it is a very viable option for us. I am asking that you take a look at it when you can (I know you have more than enough on your plates). If this can make your lives easier next year, I think it behooves us to take a look. It can be used in class or as homework options. Please take your time to dive into the full scope of the content in the Curriculum tab and other Premium features.
- In the writing section, there are about 50 content-based long form passages and 6 that are specifically SAT or ACT aligned. You can view more of these in the Curriculum Library by clicking on any topic, then scrolling to the bottom to find any passages that are available.
- I will be talking more about this in our department meeting and you will be discussing the use of this program in your next team meeting, so make sure you familiarize yourself with the program prior to your meetings. You have at least 2 weeks to take a look at it before then...
- You can access the unlocked Premium account at http://demo.noredink.com/explore with the password 'Sparkling water'.
Doctor's Notes
- If you are absent and see a physician, all medical documentation should be scanned and saved in your computer and the copies should be given to Maddie Toro in the Human Resources department. She will put them in your medical file. You do not need to give me a copy.
IMPORTANT - Parent/Guardian Contact
- If you have students who are failing or on the verge of failing, you MUST contact the parent/guardian via email or a phone call. Document your contact in the Power School Teacher Log as well. You can contact guidance, however, contact with the parent or guardian must have been made first. If you do not receive a response back from the parent, forward the information to me and I will make the attempt. If you cannot find contact information in Power School, email me and I will investigate. You can "cc" me on the parent emails and I will keep a record of them, however a comment in the teacher log is essential. If you do not know where that log can be found in PowerSchool, come see me.
- If the student failed the first trimester, contact should have been made with the parent/guardian -- a comment on the progress notes is not sufficient. Also, if you checked that you were requesting a conference on the progress notes, and no arrangements have been made, please email the guidance counselor and request the meeting.
General Housekeeping
- Please make sure that your benchmarks have been uploaded to your SGO spreadsheets AND PowerSchool.
- Freshmen instructors should be current on the APEX units as those scores will be used for placement when we begin scheduling...
- If you have students on bedside instruction, please keep in contact with the bedside instructor and make sure the student is current in their assignments.
- Attendance - we have not had many issues with "missing" attendance in the past few weeks, however, if you are experiencing errors that you think are not entry errors, please contact Maxiel...
